Lord venkateshwara is said to be as a lord of kalyuga who destroys sins of people. Shree balaji temple in india is always been a destined temple for newly wedded couples. Once sowanka and other sages requested sootha maharshi to narrate the detailed story of lord venkateshwara(Shree balaji). Saint sootha accepted the kind request and started narrating the story that was projected in past by lord venkateshwara.
Maharshi started narrating:- once upon a time, a sage called narada muni went to sathya lok, the home place of lord brahma. Sage narada bowed down (obeisance) to their parents i.e, Brahmaji and Saraswatiji. Sage narada told his parents like lord Balaji haven’t reincarnated on the planet earth (bhoolokha) after Krishna avatar and so it is becoming hell day by day. Devils are able triumph over innocents; they concluded that lord venkateshwara must visit planet earth again.
Saint narada descended towards planet earth and decided that Brighu Maharshi would decide about who next would be incarnated amongst the three lords – Brahma, Balaji, Shiva. Brighu Maharshi started with lord brahma, brighu rishi never greeted lord brahma, Lord brahma got very angry for the same and chided over brighu rishi and the output was terrible, in return brighu rishi cursed lord brahma that “From now no one on planet earth would worship you and you won’t have any temple”
Then Brighu Maharshi went to kailash to have words with lord shiva, At that time lord shiva was with his wife parvathy in a (copbhawan) privacy. Angry Lord Shiva, took his trishul to finish off Brighu Maharshi but his wife parvathy intervened, then Brighu Maharshi cursed lord shiva as well - “You would be worshipped as an idol, by way of ‘linga’ on planet earth and not as the real shape of yours”
Now Brighu Maharshi arrived at vaikunt, the home place of lord Balaji. Lord Balaji was aware of the things that have happened but pretended as he is not aware of anything. Lord Balaji was relaxing on Shes Naag. Brighu muni taught that even lord Balaji never noticed him and so the Maharshi was infuriated and kicked the Lord on his chest, the place where mahalaxmi resides(heart). In return lord Balaji started pressing the legs of the sage gently, to make him feel comfortable.
Mahalaxmi became very angry with that incident and out of anger mahalaxmi left vaikunt. Then even Lord Balaji left vaikunt and descended towards planet earth behind goddess laxmi. After the departure of his wife, Lord Balaji became helpless and lonely. Lord Balaji took abode under tamarind tree near pushkar, meditating for the arrival of his wife goddess laxmi, without food or sleep.
Lord brahma and lord shiva were very concern about lord Balaji and so they decided to serve lord Balaji by taking the form of cow and calf. Lord surya, the GOD of sun approached lord Balaji’s wife – laxmiji and requested her to take the form of cow herdess and sell the cow and calf to the emperor of chola country. The king bought the cow and calf from the cowherdess, and then he sent cow and calf for grazing at venkata hill along with his herd of cattle. The cow discovered lord Balaji on the ant-hill and the cow offered milk, and thus fed the Lord Balaji. In the meantime, the cow was not yielding milk at king chola’s palace and because of which the queen of chola kingdom chided over the cowherd. Then cowherd made his mind to uncover the cause of cow’s weird behavior, another day he started following cow’s path. He saw that the cow was emptying her milk over the ant-hill. He then decided to kill the cow, so he hided himself behind the bushes and threw a sharp edged axe towards cow.
Life savior Lord Balaji intervened and took the throw on himself and saved the cow. The cow now was full of blood stains. The frightened cow returned to the kingdom, to the chola king. To find the exact event that had occurred, king chola followed cow where the scene had occurred. The king saw that the cowherd was lying dead on the ground near ant-hill. He was still wondering of how it might have happened, suddenly lord Balaji appeared from the ant-hill and cursed the king like you become asura (devil) because of your servant’s cruel deed. The king begged to forgive him, then lord blessed him like he would be reborned as akasa raja in the next incarnation and the curse would come to an end when I would be marrying godess padmavati.
